Placenta Accreta Scotland is Scotland’s only peer advocacy group for mums who have had experience of Placenta Accreta Spectrum (PAS). We aim to raise awareness of this rare, high-risk pregnancy complication whilst bringing together mums with this shared lived experience to offer peer support. We work in close collaboration with Placenta Accreta Ireland along with consultants within NHS Scotland who specialise in PAS care to ensure PAS mums feel informed and supported.

Who we are

Emma Donnelly

Co - Founder

Emma is co-founder and lead of Placenta Accreta Scotland.

Emma was diagnosed with Placenta Accreta Spectrum (PAS) in 2023. She found this an extremely isolating and terrifying time. Looking for information, she found Placenta Accreta Ireland. She absorbed all their resources and listened to every Accreta & Me  podcast before contacting Placenta Accreta Ireland to say thank-you. As a result of those resources, she felt less alone and more informed. Emma and Naomi have been in touch ever since.

She has contributed to Placenta Accreta Ireland’s work by representing Scottish PAS mums in round table and panel discussions with other PAS mums and medics from around the world. She has also shared her story on Placenta Accreta Ireland’s podcast, Accreta & Me, as well as on the Scottish Blood Transfusion Service to help raise awareness of the importance of blood donation.

Naomi Cooney

Co - Founder

Naomi is co-founder of Placenta Accreta Scotland and is co-founder and lead of Placenta Accreta Ireland.

Naomi’s sister Ellie died in 2013 due to complications arising from PAS. She is a passionate and tireless advocate who works with medical colleagues and PAS mums with the aim of improving the experience a mum with PAS will have during her pregnancy and beyond. When Naomi and Prof. Donal Brennan founded Placenta Accreta Ireland they shared a vision that mums diagnosed with this pregnancy complication would feel supported, informed and empowered.
